I’ve found that one of the most insidious types of limitations that can hold you back from being your unique & creative self is the intensity of your admiration for a certain character (a well-known writer or speaker….etc), as while you’re panting to read his/her latest writings or listen to them, & while your admiration increases; a very subtle but sly type of restricting & limiting tie occurs inside you ... Each strand of these ties consists of a quick, autonomic thought or an inner voice that you do not notice saying: “His words are wonderful… She is creative .. He is .. such and such and such” (words of praise and admiration) .
You may ask:
“and what the problem with that?” Wait ... I'll tell you: Because our minds
automatically tend to compare and also automatically tend to think negatively
(this is the brain automatic way of protecting us); there’ll be other hidden
thoughts and voices automatically saying within you: "Where am I from all
their accomplishments? Or: I will someday become like him/her ... or I will do
such-and-such like him ... Etc. !!
And here I am
not talking about someone taking a role model, as role models are good example to
inspire and encourage you to take steps towards achieving your very personal
dream, which may be similar to your role model, and perhaps also some of your
steps might be similar in one of the phases, but without being completely
identical, Each of you has different and very unique steps and fingerprints.
But what I'm talking about here is in fact more insidious than having a role model or admiration, this is when you feel that you’re overwhelmed by your attraction to this character to the point that you feel little, inferior, or helpless as a result of the uncovered & unconscious comparison, that will subsequently make you feel like you’re frozen in your place, or you have become imitating this person or behaving in a similar way, Or perhaps you even try to approach this person & stick to him/her; telling everyone around you by that that you know that person (especially if he/she is a public figure, & of course people like to run after public figures) or ... or anything that revolves around that person because he/she is known, skilled, or talented..etc.
And all this makes You do not see that YOU are also special and that you are an
influential person just like this person!! Yes, YOU !!, you just have to start
the journey of discovering your talents & to have the confidence and
courage to take your steps on this exciting journey.
There is nothing
wrong in learning from the experiences of others and from your role model, but remember that this
is your own journey ... not their journey. It is nice to dream like this or
that person, BUT do not allow yourself to have repeated or similar dreams. God
has placed very special and unique characteristics and talents within each
person to make each person’s life journey very special and enjoyable and very,
very personal; this means that you have your very special influence.
I'm here to
remind you with the following:
Your journey is
different and distinctive because you are different and unique .. Do not look
too long at the lives of others, read, learn and benefit (especially from their
weaknesses and challenges and how they overcame them more than the glitter of
their achievements), but do not fall into the trap of intense admiration of
someone; yet belittling you .. do not let their glamour shining before your
eyes now extinguish the light of your individuality….take more time with yourself so that
you become aware and nourish your uniqueness and help it to come to light ...
not to become famous (which may happen but do not make it your goal) but to be
influential ... Be encouraged and continue to take your steps .. The world
needs for the light of God emanates through you (through your cracks and
fractures and your talents), so that this light comes out in your color ... so
what is your color?
